Gorker Alp Malazgirt

Hi,

I was born in Samsun, the cloudy Black Sea coastal city in the north of Turkey. I spent my childhood by the beach and in the highlands of Samsun. Video games, programming computers, and electronics became my genuine interests back then. By following my curiosity, I met a lot of inspiring engineers and scientists while visiting Silicon Valley during the high school years. After graduating from Samsun Anatolian High School, I went on to study Microelectronics Engineering at Sabanci University in Istanbul. The undergraduate years were the years that, apart from my studies, I expose myself very much to various extracurricular activities. I hosted my radio show at the university's radio station, played drums, and basketball on the varsity team.

After obtaining my bachelor's degree, I decided to study further, thus enrolled in the System-on-Chip Design Master's program at Lunds Institute of Technology in Lund, Sweden. I got a chance to meet engineering students from all over the world. Being part of the Nordic culture was a remarkable development for me. I obtained my first professional position at Ericsson in Lund, as a Research and Development Engineer, building mobile platforms for millions of mobile phones. It has been a passion for me to develop software for mobile devices since then.

After nearly three years of industry experience, I went back to university to obtain a Ph.D. in computer science. Academic life was full of from dusk till dawn for research and sometimes for fun. My research spun from reinforcement learning for combinatorial optimization, hardware accelerators for database operations, design space exploration with evolutionary algorithms to compiler design for domain-specific languages.

I finalized my PhD in 2019, receiving my degree from Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. While pursuing my degree, I worked at Barcelona Supercomputing Center as a Ph.D. Researcher.

My current research interests lie in computer architectures, computational sciences, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. My researched interests allowed me to linger over professional positions such as Technical Consultant and Data Scientist  that mix research methods with engineering practices in international settings. My LinkedIn profile summarizes my employment history, and Google Scholar presents my research articles.

Sincerely,

Gorker
